a wet, scary, and devastating weekend - with a little surprise at the end!

As I am sure that everyone knows now, Nashville had some rain this weekend......and is now underwater. I really don't know how to explain the shock of it all or how this will effect our amazing city for many years to come - but it's not over. I just received this picture this morning from the Opryland Hotel
this is the best before picture I could find to try and show the level of the water..
the brick arches in the back lead into the hotel lobby - which is now completely underwater. The wooden pergola looking thing on the left is the top of the sushi bar. The entire restaurant and atrium are under water. I grew up visiting this hotel with my family, worked there for 1 1/2 years, it is what brought me to Nashville and it is where I met my husband and some of my very best friends. I have so many memories there and this picture just made this so much more of a devastating reality.

***UPDATE*** More Pictures***

this is the Delta before....

 and this is it now.....

My heart just hurts....

They evacuated over 1500 guests last night to a local high school in fear that this would happen. I don't think anyone knew how bad it still was. The rain stopped around 4 yesterday, so we thought the worst had past - but now this and the fear that The Cumberland River will overflow into Downtown Nashville. It has already risen over 1st Ave and is slowly making its way to 2nd Ave. There are some many historical buildings in this area we are all in fear of what this will do!

Here are a few more pictures that show the severity of the damage....

this is wear a bridge fell in because of how strong the force of the water was...

the other side of the river

this is a few streets from where I work

this is half a mile from my house!

parking garage at Vanderbilt Hospital

that is a liquor store -water passed the doors!

the water was so fast it picked these cars up at a car dealership and pushed them on top of each other and into a church

These are just a few of the areas with damage - there is so much flooding all over parts of Nashville. Homes completely underwater, everything just gone! The worst part about all of this is none of these poor families have flood insurance, I cannot imagine the fear and devastation these poor people have. I will tell you that this has once again made me beyond grateful for all of the blessings in my life and how lucky we are to not have had any damage. I mean, just a few streets over there are rivers flowing through peoples homes and stores. Not one of my friends had damage and we live all over Nashville - worst case is one without power - that's it! We were being watched this weekend and don't think I don't know that.

So please, everyone, keep Nashville and these families in your prayers.

On a happier note, one of my BFFs got engaged this past weekend!!! I am BEYOND elated for her and cannot wait to celebrate with her in person!! {she lives 6 hours away :(} I will post a lovely little post for her later! :)
